Bespoke Tailored Kilts

Askival of Strathearn dedication to producing the Bespoke Tailored Kilt

Bespoke tailoring is the original and ultimate experience in clothing, accompanied by a construction of high quality.

It is a completely hand-crafted process from start to finish. In addition to the planning and fitting sessions, the construction takes a minimum of 25 hours.

The tailor’s eye is born out of years of experience and the bespoke kilt is measured and made for you, taking into consideration the nuances of your body shape and posture.

I have been privileged to work with bespoke tailors newly graduated to many years experience and between us, using our different experiences, have been able to look at the tailoring processes and techniques with fresh eyes, with an aim to clarify and develop understanding, knowledge and skills and in turn, enable others to learn the craft of kilt making with a high degree of understanding and skill.

The Askival of Strathearn kilt is a work of art and generally priced from £800 upwards, depending on the chosen tartan and cloth e.g. stock tartan, rare tartan or special weave.

There are 8 to 10 meters of UK woven 100% wool cloth in the kilt using top quality materials. I source the canvasses and linings from Germany and Italy. The straps and chapes are handcrafted by a local leather craftsman.

The Little Kilt starts at £200 depending on the choice of tartan – a tartan to be specially woven will cost more.

The bespoke kilt is a companion for life

The less handwork that goes into the kilt, the less character the finished garment has. The less soul, beauty and life it exudes.

Your bespoke, tailored adult kilt will be an absolute best friend and be with you for your lifetime, sharing with you many life events, active times and quiet times. Wearing your kilt will give you pleasure, confidence and a feeling of belonging be it a formal occasion or climbing the hills.

Handcrafted from high-quality, hard-wearing 100% pure new wool, your kilt will cut a dash whether you’re celebrating your 21st with friends, walking down the aisle to marry the love of your life, or dancing Strip the Willow at your 70th birthday ceilidh…

The Askival of Strathearn kilt can be pleated to your preference in the style of the Knife Edge, Military or the Historical Box pleat.

The final effect of the pleating can be fascinating.

I also specialise in the bespoke tailored Little Kilt for children, which is an heirloom for future generations, easily altered with a hem to let up or down

Future-proofed so it can still look good on you “whatever”

The authentic, tailored adult kilt will comprise between eight and eleven yards of fabric. It should be constructed in such a way as to be robust, retain its perfect fit and accommodate any required alteration during your time together. The provenance of the cloth and thread is vetted with care to ensure that I am working with only the best of materials.

If your kilt is commissioned for a milestone event such as your 18th, your 21st or even for your wedding, there’s a distinct chance that you might “grow” slightly as the years progress. The construction process had been thought through by the regimental tailors and extra material is included so it can be let out in the future as necessary. That way, you and your kilt can remain companions for life.
